What is a photography tip jar?

Short answer

A built-in feature on a delivered gallery that lets clients leave the photographer a tip.

Full definition

A tip jar is a one-click button on a client gallery that opens a prompt for the client to tip the photographer beyond the agreed price. Tips flow through the same payment processor (Stripe Connect on 12img) and arrive in the photographer's bank in 2 days. Tip jars usually sit at the end of a gallery, after the client has finished viewing — high-emotion moment, high response rate.
